Saille - Eldritch
Eldritch is
Saille’s third album. Unlike the giant leap Saille took between their first
album and their second one, they just perfected their sound on this new album.
And that sound is still very orchestral sounding Black metal. Bands that
sometimes pop up in my head while listening to this are Vesania, Dark fortress
and Keep of kalessin.
Eldritch is a tribute to horrorliterature both modern and old. Lyrically they pay tribute to writers like amongst others Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, H.p. lovecraft and Robert W. Chambers. Musically Saille use black metal, classical music and soundtracks to paint a dark and haunting atmosphere. Some members from Winterfylleth add to this desolate mood with some great spoken word parts.
This is actually a very good album. The only complaint I have about this record is that the drums sound too digital. In the fast parts it is not that distracting but in the more athmospheric and classical parts the drumsound misses quite a lot of depth. Especially because a lot of the violins, piano’s etc on this record are not produced by a keyboard but are real instruments.
