Mama Killa - Get Your Own!
Mama Killa is
a band from from Brussels who have been contacted by a cursed gypsy woman that
was turned into a doll by a black magician. The band’s music should help her
get in touch with her son J.S. who’s a psychokiller on the loose...
Mama Killa delivers a 4-track CD that lasts about 18 minutes and are a what I would call a Stoner/Rock band. They themselves call it “Post Traumatic Rock”.
The song are quite atmospheric and contain a lot of grooviness but as I listen to the Cd I tend to drift away… it may be the curse from Mama Killa but I rather think that the songs are just a bit too monotonous to keep holding my attention. On the other hand this is some nice cruizin music, because the picture in my mind as I listen to this stuff is that I’m drivin’ a convertible cross route 66. You know, just chillin’ & cruizing. Don’t Get me wrong though, this is some good stuff if you keep your attention to it cuz if we look at it musician-wise everything is solidly composed and tight with good tempochanges and such. You can tell the music has been thoughtthrough…but maybe a bit too much? You can hear definite influences from Queens Of The Stone Age, Audioslave, I even feel like there are influences from a band like Deus.
I like the songs and can only advise the band the just add that notch that keeps the listener captivated for the entire album
If you are into the Stoner/rock genre this is something you should check out.
