INSANITY REIGNS SUPREME - UNORTHODOX
This
band has been around since I took my first steps in the Belgian metal scene. We
shared some stages together and here we are, 25 years further on the road. Congratz for that guys!
Unorthodox is the 4th album that IRS unleashes upon the masses. And by everything unholy, a superb album it is. And I don’t mean just the music. Everything is there. Absolute excellent artwork by Seth Siro Anton all over the booklet and cover, give this CD that awesome professional look. I have seen worse covers & artwork by bigger bands!
But that aside, tell us about the music Larz!!
Well as you can expect from IRS we get 41 minutes of dark, doomy & atmospheric Death Metal. The song “Moonlight Sacrifice” although it’s more a sort of intro or interlude captures the doomy atmosphere that whole album contains. It reminds me of the first albums by My Dying Bride but much better. The beautiful thing is that you can’t really put a name to it, the music is very eclectic with the variety in vocals (Screams/grunts) from Tes Re Oth and it’s surprising aspects like the extra vocals by Claudia Michelutti (Valkyre), the piano part in "Moonlight Sacrifice" which I mentioned before and even the Flemish background vocals in "Satanas Rex Inferis". Like I said it has everything a good “Black” Metal album should have, the vibe, the dark lyrics, the satanic stuff, the eeriness…. everything is there.
The first and last song are actually the same except for the vocals by Claudia in the latter pointing out the duality in human nature which is the whole concept of the album really….
IRS has 11 topnotch songs on this album and every time I listen it grows on me even more.
I'm not a "black or doom" fan but this stuff transcends everything!
And all that puts IRS back at the top of the Belgian metal scene somewhere I have consider them always to be. Excellent work guys!!
So for you... don' t wait for it... go out and buy it!
