Evil Invaders - Pulses Of Pleasure
I don't think that I have to introduce Evil invaders to the readers of this website. But I will give a small recap for those people that have been living under a rock for the last year. Evil invaders is a speed metal/ thrash metal band that due to being one of the better live bands out there won limbomania, played a lot of big festivals, signed with napalm records and toured all over the world. And they are such a hardworking band that they ended up in the top 5 of most touring Belgian bands for last year.
There previous record was an ep called Evil invaders. And I must admit that although I liked that record, I was not completely blown away by it. But a few weeks after hearing the ep for the first time, I saw them live, and I must admit, that show did blow me away. So I had high hopes for Pulses of pleasure.
And did that record deliver. Pulses of pleasure is amongst the best new thrash records. Where most of the newer thrash metal bands try to emulate one of the big thrash bands, Evil invaders have crafted a sound of their own, while still sounding very retro and familiar. The groundwork of their music is punky thrash metal in the vain of Nuclear Assault and early Death Angel. But they also incorporated lots of NWOBHM influences. I especially hear some Judas Priest vocal influences and some Iron maiden harmonic long guitar parts (Pulses of pleasures, master of illusion). Another band that I'm reminded of sometimes is Agent Steel.
I should also give a shout out to the top notch production of this record. Where most modern records sound too slick and too overproduced (especially in the drum department) this record has an open sound. The music has room to breathe, you can hear all the instruments and the whole thing succeeds in displaying the live energy of Evil Invaders.
I must say that this is one great metal record and I think that Evil invaders will become an even bigger band because of this. Get this record if you have any love for metal.
