ARS VENEFICIUM - THE ABYSS
The singer of this band Surtur is also the owner of Immortal Frost productions, a local black metal label. And if the facebook page for Ars Veneficium is any indication he is putting a lot of his effort in simultaneously promoting his band and his label. Ars Veneficium is already part of two weekend tour packages and they also released their first EP The Abyss on this label.
Let’s talk about that release for a while. The Abyss contains 4 old school style black metal songs. Musically this reminds me of the nineties Norwegian scene. So no shoegazing parts, no long instrumental folk influenced parts but just blast beats, a cold sound and harsh vocals. Their sound is very much influenced by the early records of the legendary Norwegian bands. I think you all know these bands so there is not really a reason to namedrop them.
The thing here is that these 4 songs manage to convince me of the quality of Ars Veneficium. These guys know how to write good, dark sounding old school black metal songs. And if their live shows are as good as this EP and they keep on working as hard as they are doing at the moment, then I think this is band that could go places.
So make sure you have bragging rights in a few year and can say: ”I was already into Ars Venecifium when they released The Abyss” and pick this record up.
